Chandartal Lake (Himachal Pradesh)
If you want to live in the beauty of the Himalayas, enjoying the life in its full form, then Chandartal Lake is the best place to be in. And if you are a trekker then there can be nothing better than this one. Admist the blue horizons of the Sky and the eternal Himalayas is the lake called the Chandartal Lake. Some people love to trek this Lake and some other like to reach here by Jeep - in any case the beauty of the Chandartal Lake is comparable to the beauty of Mansarovar Lake. Chandartal Lake lies in the Himalayas and takes the route Kullu - Batal - Chandertal. Its a good trekking Trek. Most of the distance can be covered by Jeep but as you near down the lakes; especially Batal - its good to trek down.

Chilka Lake ( Orissa)
Just South of Puri in Orissa, there lies the largest brackish water lake in Asia. It opens to the Bay of Bengal by a narrow opening in its miles long barrier spit and there is very little exchange of elements between the lagoon and the sea. Chilka Lake is very shallow with an average depth of half meters but in some places it is as deep as 3 meters.

The Chilka lagoon has 150 species of birds out of which 100 are inter - continental water birds. Around the Chika Lagoon there are around 100 villages . With around 100, 000 people in these villages, the lagoon becomes the main source of life for these villagers. The lagoon involves immense areas of marshes, lowlands and islands. With more than 150 varieties of fishes, the Chilka Lagoon also becomes the main source of food.

Dal Lake (Jammu & Kashmir)
There is a famous saying for Srinagar - If there is a heaven on Earth, then it is here. Similarly, there is the beautiful Lake, called the Dal Lake which is the lifeline of Srinagar. The Summer Capital of the northern most Indian State of Jammu and Kashmir, Dal Lake is connected to other Lakes of the Kashmir Valley. Covering an area of 18 sq kms, the Dal Lake is a huge one. Dal Lake is the life line of the People of Srinagar. Dal Lake has been frozen completely two times till date - one was in the 80s and the other was in the 90s. At the time when Dal Lake was frozen one could even walk to the Char Chinar which is in the Middle of the Lake from the Shore. Kids used to play cricket on it and bicycle riding used to be the favorite spot.

Dumboor Lake (Rajasthan)
Dumboor Lake is situated about 58 kms from Udaipur City. One of the most popular picnic spots. It connects of the three most important destinations - Agartala, Udaipur and Gomti River. This is also the place which is near to the Tirthamukh Pilgrim Centre. It is also the place where Poush Makar Sankranti Fair is held each year.

With a vast area of 41 sq kms of water surface, the Dumboor Lake has 48 islands. The Dumboor Lake is also the source of Gomati River and also the comfluence of rivers Raima and Sarma. Thousands of Migratory birds, each year flock the lake. Dumboor Lake is one of the best places for Bird Watching.

Gandipet Lake (Hyderrabad)
Gandipet Lake also known as Osman Sagar Lake is located in the City of Hyderabad. The lake got its name for the reason that late seventh Nizam of Hyderabad Mir Osman Ali Khan in 1920 built a Dam over the lake to save the city from drowning into flood. Spreading over an area of 46 kms it is the main reservoir for the twin cities - Hyderabad and Secundarabad. The dam built came as a savor of the city.

Today the Gandipet Lake is a main Tourist attraction of Hyderabad. People from all over the world come to see the beautiful lake. With a number of entertainment options, it has become a part of the daily life of the people of Hyderabad.

Hussain Sagar Lake (Hyderabad)
Hussain Sagar Lake comes under the Seven Wonders of Hyderabad. Hussain Sagar Lake is also the largest Man Made Lake of Asia. Built by Qutub Shah in 1562, it connects two major cities - Hyderabad and Secundarabad. It is made on the tributory of River Musi. The main purpose of building the Lake was to make way for irrigation and other water related requirements.

The Place where Hussain Sagar is built is called as Tank Bund and so is the road which surrounds the lake. Today the Tank Bund has got special recognition with the 33 statues of the great illumanaries of Andhra Pradesh, standing at one side of the Road. In the middle of the Hussain Sagar Lake is the statue of Buddha which was built in the year 1992.

Kangra Dal Lake (Himachal Pradesh)
Kangra Dal Lake is located about 4 kms from Mc Leodgunj in Himachal Pradesh. The point where Naddi and Stobarry split is the place where Kangra Dal Lake begins. This Dal Lake also comes is the way of one of the highest motorable path which passes through Mc Leodgung. Located near the Tibetan Children Village; it is the place from where trekking and excursions begun.

Dal Lake of Himachal Pradesh is very near to Dharamshala Hill Station. One has to trek the distance of just 11 kms to reach the lake. You can also reach the place by road, but the natural beauty can be felt only if one treks through the entire path. The place is always filled with tourists and local people, so its not a totally abandoned place and one can go here individually.

Dal Lake is located the Village called Tota Rani and comes under mid altitude lakes with a height of 1,775 mts above the sea level.
The color of Kangra Dal Lake is Green, maybe because of the numerous fishes which are in the Lake.

Khajjar Khajjang Lake (Himachal Pradesh)
Himachal Pradesh the land of beautiful Hills and lakes, consists of the Khajjar Khajjang Lake. Khajjar meaning drains, this lake does not depend upon the rain waters to fill it. Its rather the small rivers which flow down from the Himalayas, which fill this lake throughout the year. Neither the snow nor the sun covers it. Throughout the year it has a pleasant weather for the nature lovers to come here and sit by the side of the lake. The place called Khajjar is often called as Gulmarg of Srinagar because of the beautiful meadows it has.

There is no Mythology linked with the lake. On the contrary, the Khajjar Khajjang Lake is very near to the Hill Station Dalhousie and just 25 kms from Chamba Hill Station. The nearness to the two very popular Hill Stations makes it more popular, as people can come here, stay for few hours, enjoying the beauty of the Khajjar Khajjang Lake and then go back to the Hill Stations. It just another heaven in this peaceful and beautiful Lake.

Lake Pichola (Rajasthan)
Located in the City of Udaipur, the Lake Pichola enchanted Maharajah Udai Singh II. One of the major reasons behind it being the fact that the Lake Pichola is surrounded by Hills, Temples other natural attractions. Its a huge lake so vast that one cannot see the other end of the Lake once one sits at the other end of the Lake. Its beauty is at its best especially in the winters, matching with the cool environs of Rajasthan. With a length of 4kms and 3km wide.

Despite of the beauty of the Pichola in winters, there are its drawbacks too. It can actually dry up in the winters and one can walk through the Lake upto the famous Palaces of Udaipur - Jagniwas Palace and Jagmandir Island.

Pushkar Lake (Rajasthan)
Pushkar a small time in the city of Ajmer of Rajasthan is the place where the Lake of Pushkar is situated. The Pushkar Lake gets its name from its birth city. Pushkar is supposed to be one of the most sacred Thirthas of Hindus. With over 52 ghats, a dip in the waters of Pushkar Lake is supposed to bring salvation who gets into the holy waters.

As per the Padma Puran, Lord Brahma ( Hindu Diety) wanted to perform a Vedic Yagna. While contemplating a Lotus fell down from his hands. The place where the lotus fell, water sprouted out of it. Out of the three places where the petals of the Lotus fell, Pushkar was one. This lake, being here since time eternal is one of the most sacred places of Hindus. Lake Pushkar is located in the same Pushkar where the famous Pushkar Fair is held. It is also believed that Lake Pushkar is the place where Saint Vishwamitra meditated for thousands of years.
